An Imminent Teenager

CrazyMom and I are about to enter a new stage in life - parenting a teen. It is hard for us to believe that Miss Bookworm will be thirteen before the year is out. With life swirling around us there just never seems to be enough time to sit down with Miss Bookworm and talk about the next stage of life.

Well, one thing CrazyMom and I know about ourselves is that if it is on the calendar, it gets done. This led us to put an overnight getaway for just CrazyMom and Miss Bookworm on the calendar. They went on their trip a few days ago and had a grand time. It was a great for them to be able to spend some time having fun together as well as to think through the teenage years. They came back excited about the trip causing every other kid in our home to now look forward to turning thirteen so they can go on a trip with just mom or just dad.

Here are a few photos of them hiking together (anybody know what kind of bird that feather is from?) and the place they stayed.

Was that in the hocking hills? I have some vague memory of that same combination of falls/lake/bridge. Looks like fun; makes me want to turn 13. Sorry no guesses on the bird.

What a wonderful trip for Mom and daughter!
My first guess on the feather would by a wild turkey tail feather, I've seen them and they have that pattern of brown, dark brown and brown (coppery color if the sun is hitting it correctly) on the tip, however it seems a bit short for a turkey tail feather. My second thought would be an owl, though I don't know what neck of the woods they are in!

what a gorgeous trip that was! and what a GREAT idea. we have always tried to do little 'dates' with each of our kids, but I love the thought of a trip away, one on one, on the brink of teenage-hood. :)

How funny, our oldest will be 13 in March and it already on the calendar for our first 13 year getaway! Great minds think alike!

Sounds like they had a great time!

It's really fun having teenagers. They add so much to the family! We're reading Brett and Alex Harris' new book Do Hard Things with our teens. The message is basically why waste your teenage years when you can really make them count! Good stuff!

I also think that this was Hocking Hills. But no clue as to the bird feather. Will check back for an answer.
